Cass didn't disappoint and as soon as I finished that book I got this one. So, naturally I ignored them and got When You Least Expect It first to make sure I would like this author (as I already know Lori is my jam). I read over the reviews though and saw so many say it's the best, a favorite, a top pick for them. When looking for my next listen I was as hesitant as others when I saw the length of this one.

Ok y'all, so love me a good lesbian romance, and have over 75 of them in my audible library. :) 10/10 recommend! Lori Prince is a gift! So maybe just be aware of that (if you’re like me and potentially distracted by that kind of thing) and go with it. It’s enough to pull you out of the story just a little at times, or at least that is true for me. From the Obama erasure (in favor of Charlotte’s fictional grandmother, the “first female president of the US”) to the Trump erasure (not nearly as bad a thing IMO, but still distractingly noticeable), to the fact that the biggest issue being faced in the “Those Who Wait” political/social landscape is the continued homophobia among politicians and their constituents (rather than things like BLM movements and - oh I don’t know - A PANDEMIC) this book feels like a very out-of-touch representation of the time and place it’s meant to portray in the US. I am referring to the juxtaposition of the world Cass builds here to that of our distinctly charged reality. One little thing of note to my fellow Americans: politics and politicians feature largely in this story, and it’s a bit of unfortunate timing for this release considering the current dumpster fire of a political climate in our country right now. Thank you, audio gods, for pairing wonderful writers with wonderful narrators. So when I saw that an audio version had been released with LORI PRINCE, one of my all-time favorite narrators voicing it, I basically swooned with excitement! They could NOT have found a better narrator to bring out all the tones of this book, from the sexy to the playful to the emotional and inspiring. It’s hot, sweet, poignant and at times surprisingly tear-jerking.

I’ve probably read their story 3 or 4 times by now. From the first read I fell in love with gorgeous, driven, trailblazing Charlotte, who swears she’s impervious to love and sweet, adorably awkward Sutton, who knocks down all Charlotte’s walls just by existing in the world as a “beautiful, bright ray of redheaded sunshine,” as Regan calls her. This book has had a special place in my heart since the first time I read it months ago.
